Drastic energy reduction for ventilation system of E+E Elektronik

As general contractor, we were able to reduce the energy consumption in the ventilation system of E+E Elektronik LLC in Engerwitzdorf by 40% using the highly efficient APESS heating and cooling recovery technology.

E+E Electronic LLC

The company based in Engerwitzdorf is an internationally active sensor specialist for humidity, CO2, temperature, air velocity and flow. At the company headquarters in Engerwitzdorf, sensors and measuring instruments are produced for the automotive industry, process and environmental technology or industrial process automation, among others. The production area is supplied with a clean room ventilation system, which regulates the room temperature and humidity at a constant level.

The problem – high energy consumption for heating and cooling

The high energy consumption for the operation of the ventilation system has already been recognized as a problem by the company management for quite a long time, but all approaches to a solution have failed due to the high investment costs or the low savings potential. When Rabmer mentioned the advantages of the APESS technology in the course of a consultation, especially the high savings potential due to the innovative energy management system in combination with individually adapted heat exchangers, the spark immediately jumped over and a feasibility study was commissioned.

Exact planning of the entire system with the APESS software

This is where another major advantage of the APESS technology came into play, as the entire ventilation system could be displayed using appropriate software and the resulting energy consumption and savings calculated. The study showed that a reduction of the total energy consumption of about 40% is realistic. This corresponds to a total saving of about 1.4 million kWh per year, which is equivalent to the electricity consumption of about 540 households in Austria. Based on these results and a first profitability analysis taking into account the available subsidies (federal subsidy KPC and provincial subsidy Upper Austria) Rabmer was commissioned to implement the project in September 2019.

Precise landing – a result that is worth seeing

After carrying out the basic and detailed engineering, the installation services were awarded to the company Laban in cooperation with the ventilation specialist SEMA. Within 4 months, despite a project shutdown caused by Covid-19 for several weeks, all work was carried out according to plan and on July 15th of 2020, after a 4-week trial operation, the acceptance of the system by the client took place. Around this time it already became clear that the target values for energy savings in summer operation will be reached exactly. This proofs how reliable and accurate the APESS planning software works. The plant performance will continue to be monitored continuously, and it can be assumed that the ambitious goals will be achieved 100% in the future.

We would like to thank our client E+E Elektronik for the great cooperation during this project.
