With the Ecoturbino system, the hotel industry saves water as well as energy and reduces its CO2 emissions at the same time
The current booking situation of hotels gives cautious reason for optimism for the main season and many tourism businesses are going into the summer well prepared: even though the last two years have been challenging for the hotel industry because of COVID, many hotels used the time to to focus on restructering, innovation and trends at the same time. Here the topics of sustainability and energy efficiency are at the forefront. A prime example of this is the Johannesbad Therme Bad Füssing in Bavaria. By installing more than five hundred mini-turbines in the showers of the guest rooms and wellness areas, the hotel saves energy, water and operating costs and at the same time significantly reduces its CO2 emissions – the Ecoturbino system from the Rabmer Group in Austria is responsible for this.
Tourists are increasingly looking at their ecological footprint when choosing their accommodation. Hotels with a focus on sustainability and the green transition can therefore expect more guests in the future. A lot of meassures can be taken to reduce water and energy consumptionand CO2 emmisions. Especially in showers, above-average amounts of water as well as energy are consumed for hot water preparation – a great challenge for hotels, especially with the currently dramatically rising electricity and gas prices. Ernst Kaser, the manager of the Johannesbad Therme Bad Füssing, also recognises this: “In a spa hotel, you naturally use a lot of water in the showers, since the spa guests have several treatments a day.”
The remedy for this at the Johannesbad Therme is the Ecoturbino system of Rabmer Group. “Thanks to the Ecoturbino system, we have enormous savings in water and energy, which not only leads to a significant reduction in costs, but also to a correspondingly sustainable use of water as a resource and the energy used to heat water – and this without our guests noticing anything,” says Kaser.
Saving 17 million litres of water with the same showering comfort
In the Johannesbad Therme Bad Füssing, a total of 464 rooms and 59 spa showers were equipped with the Ecoturbino system. The spa hotel thus saves around 17 million litres of water, 630,000 kWh of energy and almost 200 tonnes of CO2 per year. The total water consumption of the sanitary aerea is thus reduced by 17 percent. This year, the Ecoturbino system will therefore be installed in all locations of the Johannesbad group of companies in Germany.
“How high the savings are varies from hotel to hotel. We therefore offer free measurements and test runs. This shows immediately how much water and energy can be saved without sacrificing guest comfort,” explains Ulrike Rabmer-Koller, Managing Director of the Rabmer Group.
Water-air mixture ensures a pleasant shower experience
The Ecoturbino, which has been tested by TÜV and certified with the Austrian Eco-label, is installed directly in the shower as a connecting piece between the fitting and the shower hose. “With the Ecoturbino, the water flow is reduced by around 40 percent, additionally mixed with air and strongly swirled. This massively increases the flow rate and at the same time the showering comfort is fully maintained. Hotels thus reduce their operating costs enormously – this is particularly important in view of the high energy costs and CO2 pricing. In addition, the environment also benefits, because less hot water consumption also means less consumtion of ressources and CO2 emissions, which is impressively demonstrated at the Johannesbad Therme Bad Füssing,” Rabmer-Koller concludes.
