Saving Water and Energy
Saving water and energy without the guests noticing anything? Mag. Ulrike Rabmer-Koller, Director of the Rabmer Group, explains in an easy-to-understand manner how high savings can be achieved by simple changes.
ÖHV: How can you save water and energy in the hotel industry by simple measures?
Mag. Ulrike Rabmer-Koller: A huge part of the water and energy costs in hotels is caused by the showering of hotel guests. Conventional economy showerheads or flow restrictors have one major disadvantage: reducing the volume of water also reduces showering comfort. Hotels, which value high customer satisfaction, often do not want their customers to feel any changes while showering. To solve this problem, we offer an innovative solution: Our ECOTURBINO® reduces water and energy consumption by 36% due to its patented technology, without the guests noticing any changes. Comfort is the highest premise for hotels. The ECOTURBINO®, as the only product available on the market, creates the balance between full comfort and high savings and is therefore the perfect sustainable and energy-efficient solution for the hotel industry.
ÖHV: How exactly does the product work? Why don’t the guests notice anything?
Mag. Ulrike Rabmer-Koller: The small turbine mixes air with the flowing water, thereby it creates a turbulent mixture of water and air. Although the actual water consumption is reduced, the shower volume remains the same and the guests can enjoy full showering comfort due to the pressure increase principle. In addition, the powerful water jet cleans the shower hose and the shower head, hence why the ECOTURBINO® prevents those parts from deposits and biofilm and reduces the risk of germ formation and legionella.
ÖHV: How extensive and cost-intensive are these measures?
Mag. Ulrike Rabmer-Koller: The ECOTURBINO® can be installed quick and easy in every existing armature. The investment almost always pays for itself in less than six months. The ECOTURBINO® can also be combined with already installed water saving systems to achieve additional savings with the same water jet intensity. Everyone is able to calculate their personal saving potential with our savings calculator on the website. A business hotel with 100 rooms in Vienna, for example, saves around 12.000 euros a year in water, energy and wastewater costs and makes a significant contribution to environmental protection by saving 2.100 m³ of water, 86.000 kWh of energy and 28.000 kg of CO2. Hence why the ECOTURBINO® has been certified by TÜV Austria as a suitable energy efficiency measure in the sense of the Energy Efficiency Act and has further been awarded the Austrian Ecolabel and the Energy Globe Award Upper Austria.
ÖHV: Are there already any concrete experiences within the hotel industry that use your system?
Mag. Ulrike Rabmer-Koller: Many well-known hotel companies in Austria and abroad are already equipped with the ECOTURBINO®. For example, the Stanglwirt in Going, the Walchhofer Hotel Group in Zauchensee, the Alpen-Karawanserai in Hinterglemm, the Falkensteiner in Leoben, the Biohotel Rupertus in Leogang, the Eurotherme Bad Schallerbach or the Johannesbad Therme Bad Füssing and the Nixe Palace ***** Hotel on Mallorca are already using our water saving innovation with great satisfaction.
ÖHV: Apart from your water saving system, do you offer any other interesting solutions for the hotel industry?
Mag. Ulrike Rabmer-Koller: The Rabmer Group provides innovative and efficient environmental technologies in many areas. In addition to our water saving system we offer the AQUABION®, which is an environmentally friendly lime and corrosion protection system. It enables the consumption of natural drinking water completely without any use of chemicals, salt or electricity. The more than 100.000 installed AQUABION® throughout Europe testify the quality of the product. A high potential for energy saving and environmental protection is further offered through our technologies in the field of energy from wastewater. In combination of innovative heat exchangers and heat pumps, warm wastewater is used to pre-heat fresh water, as well as for heating and cooling of buildings.
