Saving water and energy - "Setting an example"

Saving water and energy without the guest noticing? Ulrike Rabmer-Koller, Managing Partner of the Rabmer Group, explains how this is possible with simple means in an interview with the ÖHV.

ÖHV: How can simple measures be taken to save water and therefore energy in the hotel industry?

Ulrike Rabmer-Koller: A large proportion of water and energy costs in hotels are caused by hotel guests showering. Conventional low-flow shower heads or flow restrictors have one major disadvantage: reducing the volume of water also reduces shower comfort. Hotels that value high customer satisfaction often do not want to put their customers through this. We offer an innovative solution here: our ECOTURBINO® uses patented technology to reduce water and energy consumption by 36% without guests noticing . Especially in hotels, guest comfort is the top priority. The ECOTURBINO® is the only product available on the market that manages the balancing act between full comfort and high savings potential, making it the perfect sustainable and energy-efficient solution in the hotel industry.

ÖHV: How exactly does the technology work? Why don't guests notice anything?

Ulrike Rabmer-Koller: " The small turbine, which can simply be screwed onto any fitting in front of the shower hose, mixes air with the water flowing through it, creating a turbulent mixture of water and air. Although the actual water consumption is reduced due to the pressure increase principle, the shower volume remains the same and the guest can enjoy full showering comfort despite the savings. In addition, the powerful water jet cleans the shower hose and shower head: ECOTURBINO® prevents deposits and biofilm from forming in the shower hose or shower head. The risk of germ formation and legionella is reduced.

ÖHV: How time-consuming and cost-intensive are these measures?

Ulrike Rabmer-Koller: " The ECOTURBINO® can be retrofitted quickly and easily to any shower fitting. The investment almost always pays for itself in less than six months. The ECOTURBINO® can also be combined with already installed water-saving systems to achieve additional savings while maintaining the same water jet intensity. With our savings calculator on the website, anyone can easily calculate their personal savings potential. A business hotel with 100 rooms in Vienna, for example, saves around 12,000 euros a year on water, energy and waste water costs and makes a significant contribution to the environment by saving 2,100 m³ of water, 86,000 kWh of energy and 28,000 kg of CO2 a significant contribution to environmental protection. This is why the ECOTURBINO® was also certified by TÜV Austria as a suitable energy efficiency measure within the meaning of the Energy Efficiency Act and was awarded the Austrian Ecolabel and the Energy Globe Award Upper Austria.

ÖHV: Do you already have concrete experience with hotels that use your system?

Ulrike Rabmer-Koller: Many well-known hotels in Austria and abroad are already equipped with the ECOTURBINO®. For example, the Stanglwirt in Going, the Walchhofer Hotel Group in Zauchensee, the Alpen-Karawanserai in Hinterglemm, the Falkensteiner in Leoben, the Biohotel Rupertus in Leogang, the Eurotherme Bad Schallerbach or the Johannesbad Therme Bad Füssing as well as the Nixe Palace***** Hotel on Mallorca rely on our water-saving innovation.

ÖHV: Are there other Rabmer solutions besides the water-saving system that are of interest to the hotel industry?

Ulrike Rabmer-Koller: The Rabmer Group is a partner for innovative and efficient environmental technology products in many areas. In addition to saving water, AQUABION®, for example, is an environmentally friendly limescale and corrosion protection system. It enables natural drinking water of the best quality for the customer, completely without the use of chemicals, salt or electricity. The more than 100,000 AQUABION® systems installed throughout Europe testify to the quality of the product. Energy from wastewater technologies also offer great potential for energy savings and environmental protection. Here, warm wastewater is used to preheat fresh water or to heat and cool buildings by means of innovative heat exchangers and heat pumps.
