Water saving - Adjust common standard for water consumption in showers

Water scarcity is a pressing issue that has consistently ranked among the top ten global risks. In the hospitality sector water usage in the bathroom per person, as major driver of water consumption, is much higher than in private households, which might result in some conflicts between local residents and hotels. Some hotels still exceed 15 liter per minute, more and more hotel groups have defined a brand standard for water consumption in showers with a flow rate of min. 9 liters/minute and taps of 8 liters/minute. But this is still contradictory to many country ’s standards or sustainable regulations like the CSRD/Taxonomy in Europe.

Project Goal:

Demonstrate, how hotels can improve brand standard for water flow in showers and taps without compromising guest experience.

Project Approach:

Data-driven pilot project involving practical tests to optimize water flow while maintaining guest comfort.

Project Scope:

Collaboration with members of the Alliance and hotel groups across different regions, minimum 4 members and 10,000 showers.
Use of water-saving devices capable of reducing flow to 6 litre/minute without compromising shower comfort.

Project Plan:

Step 1 – REGISTRATION: Interested SHA members apply for joining this project and get a detailed information package

Step 2 – TEST KITS: The registered participants get Ecowaterjet water saving – test sets from Rabmer to define the perfect water reducer type.

Step 3 – COMPLETE EQUIPMENT: the hotels place orders to Rabmer for the water saving devices based on the test results and the discounted price for SHA members.

Step 4 – MONITORING: monitoring of the water consumption together with eventual occurring guest complaints. Comparison with prior years.

Step 5 – DATA COLLECTION: Collection and analysis of the monitoring after 3 and 5 months period by an Austrian university.

Step 6 – REPORT: The 3-month and 6-month report will be published to the SHA members.

Expected Outcomes and Impact:

Environmental impact: Annual savings of 77 million litres of water, 3 million kWh of energy, and 945 tons of CO₂ only if the waterflow is reduced from 9 – 6,5 litres/minute in 10.000 showers

TECHNOLOGY DESCRIPTION - WATER SAVING DEVICES

ECOWATERJET by rabmer® - water and energy saving system for the shower

Showers and washbasins in particular consume a lot of water and energy, which in turn results in high costs. With the innovative ECOWATERJET by rabmer® technology, you can save up to 50% water and energy while maintaining a high level of comfort for your guests. At the same time, you also reduce your CO₂ emissions and the costs for water, waste water and energy. A hotel with 100 rooms can save around 1.5 million liters of water, 60,000 kWh of energy and € 13,000 per year with ECOWATERJET. The investment pays for itself after just a few months.

Ecowaterjet reduces water and energy consumption in the shower by up to 50%, which also reduces operating costs.

Best shower comfort: The strongly swirled water-air mixture generated inside the Ecowaterjet enables a powerful water jet, which, despite the water reduction to up to 6 litres/minute, ensures an invigorating shower feeling for the guests as with 12 litres/minute.

Ecowaterjet meets the requirements of the EU taxonomy with a maximum of 8 litres/minute for showers.

Easy installation: Ecowaterjet is easily screwed in between the faucet and the shower hose within a few minutes

Improved hygiene: The strong water-air turbulence prevents deposits and biofilm, thus reducing the risk of germs and legionella. .
