Water is the basis of our lives. This makes it all the more important to treat this precious resource with care. This applies to our private households and hotels as well as to student residences. The three student halls of residence of the Catholic Student Community (KHG) in Linz have already internalized this principle and equipped all showers in the Franz Jägerstätter and Petrinum halls of residence with Ecoturbino shower sets in 2017, followed by the Salesianum in 2019 as part of the general refurbishment.
The residents also benefit from the savings
The three KHG locations are a place to meet, a place to make friends and a place to feel at home. It is therefore important for the management to provide the students with pleasant and high-quality living spaces. The careful use of water is taken very seriously, which is why they were very interested in the Ecoturbino right from the start, as it promises high water and energy savings without compromising on shower comfort. Hubert Dorninger, press spokesman and organization officer at KHG, describes this as follows: "Our residents use most of their water when showering or for personal hygiene. Taking targeted savings measures here pays off in several ways: firstly, and this is probably the most important thing, precious drinking water is saved, as well as energy and costs for hot water preparation, which inevitably leads to the third: the operating costs in this area only increase moderately. And it is precisely these savings that we can pass on to our residents in the form of lower room rents."
Saving water, energy and costs - it pays off
A detailed savings calculation was carried out for the two KHG homes Franz Jägerstätter and Petrinum, which were equipped with Ecoturbino in 2017. Since then, around 2 million liters of water, 70,000 kWh of energy and 23 tons of CO2 have been saved annually with 70 shower systems, resulting in an annual cost reduction of around 8,000 euros. This means that the Ecoturbino paid for itself after less than six months.
