Drastic energy reduction with ventilation system from E+E Elektronik

As general contractor, we were able to reduce the energy consumption of E+E Elektronik GmbH's ventilation system in Engerwitzdorf by 40% by using the highly efficient APESS heat and cold recovery technology.

E+E Electronics GmbH

The Engerwitzdorf-based company is an internationally active sensor specialist for humidity,CO2, temperature, air velocity and flow. At the company headquarters in Engerwitzdorf, sensors and measuring devices are produced for the automotive industry, HVAC, process and environmental technology and industrial process automation, among others. The production area is supplied with a clean room ventilation system, which regulates the room temperature and humidity at a constant level.

The problem - high energy consumption for heating and cooling

The high energy consumption for the operation of the ventilation system had long been recognized as a problem by the company management, but all approaches to a solution had so far failed due to the high investment costs and low savings potential. When Rabmer mentioned the advantages of APESS technology during a consultation, especially the high savings potential thanks to the innovative energy management system in conjunction with individually adapted heat exchangers, the spark was immediately ignited and a feasibility study was commissioned.

Optimum planning of the overall system with APESS software

Another key advantage of APESS technology came into play here, as the entire ventilation system could be visualized using appropriate software and the resulting energy consumption and savings calculated. The study showed that a reduction in total energy consumption of around 40% is realistic. This corresponds to a total saving of around 1.4 million kWh per year, which is equivalent to the electricity consumption of around 540 households in Austria. Based on these results and an initial profitability analysis, taking into account the available subsidies (federal subsidy KPC and Upper Austrian state subsidy), Rabmer was commissioned to implement the project in September 2019.

Precise landing - a result to be proud of

After carrying out the basic and detailed engineering, the installation services were awarded to Laban in cooperation with the ventilation specialist SEMA as part of a tender. Despite a project shutdown caused by Covid-19 lasting several weeks, all work was completed on schedule within 4 months and the system was accepted by the client on July 15, 2020 after 4 weeks of trial operation. At this point, it was already clear that the target values for energy savings in summer operation were being achieved with pinpoint accuracy. Proof of how reliably and accurately the APESS planning software works. The system performance will continue to be monitored on an ongoing basis, and it can be assumed that the ambitious targets will also be achieved 100% in the future.

We would like to thank our client E+E Elektronik for the great cooperation on this project.
