Since this year, Rabmer Bau & Umwelttechnik has also been offering a comprehensive service program for the mobile measurement of temperature, flow rate, level and flow velocity in gravity sewers as part of its activities relating to the condition assessment and rehabilitation of sewer pipes and manholes.
The topic of flow measurement in sewers is becoming increasingly important, as changes in residents' water consumption on the one hand, but also the dry and heavy rainfall periods caused by climate change on the other, are increasingly calling into question the previous approaches to dimensioning wastewater systems.
Accordingly, more and more operators are measuring the actual flow rates of their existing systems in order to ensure proper functioning. Overmeasurement can lead to increased operating costs, while undermeasurement can lead to unacceptable water pollution and the resulting claims for damages.
Many municipalities are also beginning to examine their sewer networks for the possible use of wastewater heat as renewable energy for heating and cooling buildings. This innovative use of energy from wastewater has recently become increasingly popular in Austria, and there are already some great reference projects in Innsbruck, Vienna and Graz. The Rabmer Group has specialized in this topic and is currently working on several projects throughout Austria where wastewater heat is being used specifically for heating and cooling event halls, municipal buildings, shopping centers or for feeding into the local district heating network. All these projects have one thing in common: the correct recording of the actual wastewater volume and temperature in the sewer as the basis for deciding whether sufficient energy is available for the future heating and cooling system!
